EXCLUSIVE CONTENT for PHOENIX DESCENDING:

In PHOENIX DESCENDING, the following scene is told from Bramwell Stormbolt's point of view, but here's a special bonus scene of the same scene from Tori's point of view!

Rain began to pelt them as they turned the horses around and raced back to the castle. Bram looked over his shoulder at Tori, making sure she wouldn’t get left behind. Lightning lit up the sky, and thunder boomed, shaking the ground. The sky grew eerily dark, and the torrents of rain left them drenched.

A servant spotted them as they neared the back gate of the castle and let them in. Bram immediately jumped off his horse and took the reins of Tori’s horse. Together, they ran to the stables for shelter, but the downpour had already drenched them.

Tori shivered, her cloak soaked and her skin damp. It felt as if ice ran through her veins, and everything before her began to swim in her vision.

No, not now. Please.

Bram was suddenly beside her with a blanket. “You’ll need to remove your cloak, Lady Tori.”

She could barely make out what he was saying. She nodded, teeth chattering. She was only slightly aware of her cloak falling to the ground. She fought to keep her eyes open.

In the next instant, the warmth of the blanket was around her. Cool hands touched her cheeks. She lifted her eyes, finding a look of concern on his face. He could feel her fever. There was no way for her to hide it.

“There’s a small room in the back. We can wait there until the storm dies down.”

“Yes. Okay.” It hadn’t even felt like her voice leaving her throat.

The world seemed to tilt, filled with the sound of heavy rain pelting the stable roof. Bram guided her, and she was grateful that he was there to keep her from tripping to the ground. She was sure she wouldn’t be able to hold herself up alone. Her stomach spiked with pain, and all she could do was clench her fists and groan.

She needed air. She gulped, seeking relief, but she could only find dryness in her throat. She pulled at the neckline of her dress.

“Lady Tori! Are you all right?”

She swallowed hard, rewarded with a small morsel of saliva. “Feverish,” was all she was able to say, barely able to keep her eyes open.

His hand pressed upon her forehead, but she was barely aware of it. She needed to be free from the strangling feeling of her clothes.

“Lady Tori, forgive me, but may I help you?”

“Too tight,” she said, fire burning in her cheeks and neck. She tried so swallow again, nearly choking.

“I’ll just loosen it a bit, all right?”

She nodded and turned away from him, resisting the urge to let herself fall.

With a sudden intake of air, Tori swayed, her dress now hanging loose around her shoulders. She wasn’t even aware that she was leaning against Bram’s solid form until his arm slipped around her.

Her head found his chest, and it was like an inviting pillow luring her to sleep. She breathed Bram in, the rain mixed with his scent, and couldn’t help but snuggle into him. She shouldn’t sleep. She should fight the fever. She should reach into her pouch and find her medicine.

A shiver shook her, causing her to seek more warmth from Bram’s body. He stroked her hair, and she gave in to exhaustion. Perhaps she just needed to sleep for a moment. Just a small moment. And then everything would be all right.

Isn't that scene amazing?!! I know I can't wait to read this book! Hey, don't forget to enter the contest for a chance to win a ton of books by me, A.M. Rose, Kim Briggs, and more! To enter, you need to know that my favorite number is 11. Add up all the favorite numbers of the authors on the gold team and you'll have all the secret code to enter for the grand prize!
